Ioana Sandu is a fine art photographer passionate about exploring the subtleties of human existence. Their work engages with themes of identity, humanity, and celebrating imperfection.
As a conceptual photographer, Ioana wants to create layers of meaning within their work. Some concepts they are exploring are the phenomenological impact of images, the photograph as memory, and the pressures the human body experiences in the age of digital manipulation.
Sandu views photography through the eyes of a painter. They work with both digital and analogue photography, using post production colour manipulation to treat the photograph as a painting and have full control of the colour palette. However, the artistic process does not end there; Sandu deconstructs photography by working on the surface of the prints, using paint and materials such as semi-precious stones and chains to enhance and decorate the image.
Ioana explores life through creation, and hopes to evoke emotion in the viewer through their work.
